The paper presents some findings from Piero Sraffa’s correspondence files relating to the publication of Production of Commodities by Means of Commodities. It documents the first reactions of some leading economic theorists, like John Hicks and Paul A. Samuelson, to Sraffa’s book and shows his responses to written comments and book reviews. A more detailed account is provided of Sraffa’s exchanges with Stephen Bodington (alias John Eaton) and Claudio Napoleoni.
